July/August 2011
DAY 1
July 12th, 2011
All packed up and left Woodstock at 9am (27c)
Lovely drive up to Tobermory with blue sky and sun. We arrived at Tobermory at 1pm. We had thought on camping before going on the ferry, but because there was a ferry leaving at 3:40pm we decided to go with that one. The crossing was good. We got some good photos of loading/unloading the boat.
Arrived at Manitoulin campground Manitowaning. We did a Laurel and Hardy with the tent! We mantled, dismantled etc. for about one and a half hours! Finally! all set up!
whew!
Mosquitoes eating us alive.
Day 2
July 13th,
Made ourselves coffee! Sunny 17c cool. Set out at 10am, we had to detour because of a bad accident that just happened before us on the road, so that held us up a bit. Visited a lovely Trading Post, selling native hand made things. We found a lovely campsite that night at Pancake Bay Provincial Park. It had a lovely sandy beach, where I dipped my feet in Lake Superior. The beaches here are beautiful. The tent went up much better, ha ha. We cooked supper on our coleman stove, a one pan dish of ham, potatoes, onion, asparagus, etc. We used the shower facilities there. 9:30 pm and still very much daylight, but we're ready for bed.
Day 3
July 14th, 16c at 11am.
Lovely drive along shores of Superior. A lot of open water, cold, blue sky, and sun.
At 4pm it's 16c. at Ney Provincial Park. This is the best site so far. We got one right close to the beach, which made is a lot cooler at night, but so very beautiful. Dave named this spot the "Florida of the North". It reminded us of St Pete's Beach in Florida, only no people, and laden with driftwood, I'd have loved to take home a stump, but settled instead on a walking stick. The air here is so clear Can harldly believe we're still in Ontario. We're getting proficient in setting up the tent and cots. Down to tent up in 15 mins. (considering a business in helping ppl camp! LOL)
One dish dinner again with ground beef splash of red wine and vegs incl red pepper. Made enough to last us for tomorrow night. Getting the hang of this camping thing.
Reminded of the poem "Footprints" Thank you Lord you promised never to leave us. Coldest night yet, wore fleecy pj's.

Hi Esther, looks like your enjoying your trip so far. Did you get a picture of the sleeping giant in the lake at ThunderBay, and the statue of the Fox boy just before ThunderBay, can't think of his name, lol old age i guess. We missed you today at our Curvy girls get together. It was in Innerkip, and the food was quite good. Well continue safely, and enjoy. chat again Rina
